We are moving into Autumn hiking weather with cooler temperatures and Fall colors. I want to remind folks that ticks and chiggers are still an abundant threat in the forest, especially for off-trail hikers. Ticks carry an array of diseases that should be taken seriously, so take the time now to treat your gear and stay protected. Here are a couple of links with information on treating your gear with permethrin.

My gear treatment ritual includes boots, ankle gaiters, pants, jacket, and backpack. I find that a couple of sawhorses come in handy for a clothes rack. I also like to utilize an outdoor fan to speed up the drying process. Share this with your friends who are hiking this season.
